ACIP Meeting Status Unclear Following Federal Court Decision
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccine policy, was scheduled to meet March 18–19, 2026.
However, the CDC-hosted YouTube stream remained in a “waiting” state well beyond the scheduled start time of 8:00 AM EST, with no visible indication that the meeting had begun or that an alternative viewing option was available. No real-time updates or clarifications were visible across the CDC’s website or social media.
The Federal Register notice announcing the meeting also contains an apparent inconsistency, listing the second day of the meeting as March 19, 2025 instead of 2026. While likely a typographical error, discrepancies in official documentation may contribute to confusion about scheduling and access.
ACIP meetings play an important role in shaping vaccine recommendations in the United States.
Clear communication and reliable public access are key components of transparency in these processes.
*Update: “ACIP as currently constituted cannot meet”
Still, there is no clear public-facing update from the CDC explaining the status of the scheduled ACIP meeting or its accessibility. This creates a clear disconnect between what was communicated and what is actually happening, leaving people without a reliable, centralized source of information about a meeting that directly informs public health guidance.
However, upon further investigation, it appears that a federal court decision issued March 16, 2026, may explain the change.
According to a press release from organizations involved in American Academy of Pediatrics et al. v. Kennedy et al., a U.S. District Court judge temporarily stayed actions affecting the current composition of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), stating that the committee “cannot meet” as currently constituted.
